Department of Ophthalmology
The department of Ophthalmology, Isra University Hospital has the distinction of providing the modern state of art and up-to-date ophthalmic services in the country. The department not only caters to the needs of local population but also acts as a referral centre for complicated and rare eye disorders from all over province/Pakistan.
Cataract is one of the leading, preventable causes of blindness in our country. In this disease the natural lens of the eye becomes opaque, later it becomes white. This results in decreased vision. Most common reason is old age.
Glaucoma is one of the eye disease in which intraocular pressure of the eye is raised resulting in damage of the optic nerve. If nor treated in time causes irreversible blindness.
Blindness due to Diabetes is increasing day by day due to Diabetic retiopathy. In diabetic retinopathy the retina eye is affected. This cause; lots of complications like retinal detachment, retinal hemorrhage and vitreous hemorrhage. Early treatment of these complications is available the Eye department of Isra University Hospital is staffed with Four consultants.

The out patient clinic is providing its services from 9.30 am to 3.30 pm daily (except Sunday) with consultants / specialist cover.
The department is well equipped with the latest diagnostic instruments including computer eye testing, digital slit lamp, binocular indirect ophthalmoscope, visual FFA (Fundus flourescein angiography), Agron laser photocoagulation, YAG laser, Auto- Refractor, Computerized Keratometer, Ultrasound A& B Scan and corneal Topography, OCT-Perimetry
Outpatient clinic provides the facility for screening and treatment of cataract, glaucoma and vitreotinal disorder like diabetic retinopathy and retinal detachment.
Operation Theater is equipped with highly modern machines. Eye OT is offering the latest facilities like small incision Phaco emulsification (ultrasound) of cataract with foldable lens implant, glaucoma surgery, squint surgery, ptosis, and lid disorder DCR & vitreoretinal surgery like retinal detachment operation. We are one of the few centers in the city where both medical and surgical retinal problems are dealt with. Most of surgeries like cataract & glaucoma on done with Topical Anesthesia without injection.
The Eye ward comprises of six beds with trained ophthalmic nursing cover for patients requiring inpatient care.
The department is well support by other disciplines of medical care with full diagnostic support for Radiology, microbiology and other lab facilities. This helps a great in overall care of patients requiring combined approach to their problems.
